Yves Meyer-Bülow with Handelsblatt: Germany’s New Beginning Starts With Infrastructure

I Squared Capital Fund Partner Yves Meyer-Bülow discusses Germany’s infrastructure needs, the role of private capital, and why faster project execution will be critical to the country’s competitiveness.

Germany faces billions in investment needs across energy, digitalization, and transportation. After years of underinvestment, infrastructure has shifted from a competitive advantage to a competitive disadvantage, while rising demand for digital infrastructure and energy is creating new capacity and investment requirements.

In a recent interview, Yves Meyer-Bülow, Fund Partner at I Squared Capital, examines how Germany can address these infrastructure needs and the role private capital can play alongside public investment. He points to modern data centers, high-performance fiber networks, and energy infrastructure as areas where demand is increasing, particularly as artificial intelligence and digitalization reshape the economy.

Meyer-Bülow also considers what Germany needs to do to translate that demand into infrastructure development. Faster planning, approvals, and implementation, along with reliable regulatory frameworks, will be important to accelerating investment. He highlights Germany’s industrial base and innovation capabilities as strengths, while noting that private investors can bring additional capital, international experience, and implementation expertise.

The interview also covers I Squared Capital’s growing presence in Germany, including its involvement in the “Made for Germany” initiative, and why Meyer-Bülow believes accelerating investment could make infrastructure a decisive competitive advantage for Germany again.
