ADVISOR Magazine: Irina Zilbergleyt on Private Infrastructure in Wealth Portfolios

Drawing on the ISQ OpenInfra Index, Irina examines the forces driving private infrastructure demand, the middle-market opportunity, and why specialist expertise matters.

In a recent ADVISOR Magazine article, Irina Zilbergleyt, Managing Director and Global Head of Distribution and Product Strategy for OpenInfra at I Squared Capital, examines why private infrastructure is attracting increased attention from financial advisors and private wealth investors.

Drawing on findings from the inaugural ISQ OpenInfra Index, Irina highlights a shift in how advisors are positioning the asset class. The survey found that 75% of financial advisors expect clients to increase private infrastructure allocations by 2027, while capital appreciation is now more commonly identified as infrastructure’s primary portfolio role than income generation or diversification.

She connects this growing portfolio demand to a multidecade infrastructure investment need. Developed markets must modernize aging roads, bridges, power grids, and digital systems, while population growth and urbanization are creating demand for essential infrastructure across emerging economies.

The article also considers the opportunity within the middle market, where established infrastructure businesses may offer meaningful potential for operational improvement, expansion, and platform building. Irina explains why local market knowledge, active asset management, and specialist sector expertise can be particularly important when identifying and scaling these businesses.
